Founded on Jan. 1, 2020, by Sue Smith Romero, GPM features articles about the people, places, and projects right here in Central New York. These are stories, poems, and essays you can't find anywhere else, about people you know - or maybe even yourself.

We focus on people, places, and projects within a 50-mile radius of Utica, NY.

Sue Smith Romero

After growing up in the Mohawk Valley and graduating from Syracuse University, Sue lived all over the US and in Japan as a military spouse. Now after returning home, she is delighted to write about the creative, resourceful, resilient people she meets here.

 

Sue has written for newspapers, newsletters, blogs, and magazines, including ACCENT. She also plays traditional Irish music with Craobh Dugan.

Philomena Lawrence

Philomena is a former high school teacher. She was a feature writer for the Illinois-based Pioneer Press, Inc. (a division of TIME, Inc). Her articles have been published in numerous newspapers and magazines, including ACCENT, the Stained Glass Quarterly, Victorian Homes, Russian Life, and the Northern Logger, among others.

Philomena was born in India, and lived in England before immigrating to the U.S. in 1977. She and her husband, Dr. Gilbert Lawrence, live in Utica. They enjoy ballroom dancing and traveling.

Writer

Richard M. Barrett

Richard is an editor, feature writer and photojournalist whose work has been published in newspapers, magazines, and business and trade journals. He has previously worked in print and broadcast media, corporate communications, and in advertising, public relations and marketing, and recently retired as editor of ACCENT Magazine.

In addition, Richard is an aspiring children’s book author, playwright, poet, lyricist, and musician. He enjoys spending as much time as possible outdoors and in the kitchen cooking and baking.

Tennille-Lynn Millo

Tennille is a freelance writer who’s been writing her way through meals, vacations, and everyday woes. Between trips to Utica Coffee and carting her three children around the globe, Tennille can be found working on article deadlines, interviewing intriguing humans and drafting manuscripts for private clients.

To date, her work has been featured in several newspapers and magazines, like Redbook, Parents, Newsday, Philadelphia Inquirer, CBS, AOL, NYMag.com, and ACCENT.
